Graduated from Tougaloo College, majoring in biology, Tougaloo, MS, with additional undergraduate studies at Harvard University, University of California at Santa Cruz, and University of Southern Mississippi. Obtained MS degree, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and PhD degree, Atlanta University, Atlanta, GA with lab bench training at the CDC. Postdoctoral Fellow, Emory University, School of Medicine, and Visiting Research Assistant Professor in biology (skeletal myogenesis), University of VA.
