Just the other day I mentioned that something similar to your idea would be needed at my university. I certainly could have benefited from it during my student days. Congratulations and hope that the project will take off soon and eventually be utilised internationally. (I currently reside in South Africa).
Hi Joris, Thanks for the response. I currently live in Durban South Africa but I have family in Uganda. I was thinking of the Mpigi area which is 37 kilometres west of Kampala. Uganda is a place with many graduates majority of whom have purely academic knowledge. There is definitely a need for a program like Vijana Reloaded to compliment (or fill in the gap) classroom education and to nurture a culture of creating jobs rather than seeking them. This can best be done through problem solving via human centered design as you already know too well.
Hi, I love your ideas for enhancing education with design thinking. I had pitched an idea of Open Youth Centres, which is basically providing open, positive and welcoming spaces in low income communities where the youth can connect, create, learn and inspire whilst giving them a voice in the design of the spaces, the choice and development of programs with the idea of fostering a sense of ownership of the spaces. The structure of the spaces utilizes shipping containers (designs have been provided by potential collaborators) and can also be set up in schools to compliment class based learning. I would love to collaborate with you to bring your idea to implementation.
