Jordan commented on regenerate the tidal marshlands

Hi Lance, great idea that could also help mitigate the impacts of sea level rise and storm surges. FYI, SPUR (the San Francisco Bay Area Planning and Urban Research Association) published a guide that might be helpful: the Floating Wetlands Handbook: http://www.spur.org/sites/default/files/wysiwyg/u169/2014%20Patri%20Fellow%20%E2%80%94%C2%A0Floating%20Wetlands.pdf

Jordan commented on The Sunnyvale Urban Forest

Great concept, Lance! Oakland has a similar program that might be useful to evaluate for lessons learned. http://www.urbanreleaf.org/ Talk to Kemba Shakur, their Executive Director. There are also grants available to get programs started: http://californiareleaf.org/programs/grants/ Finally, you might consider how the carbon sequestered in trees might be kept as a solid at the end of a tree's life (since it will become CO2 gas again when the tree dies and decomposes). There are urban forestry companies that create furniture from wood collected from tree trimming and removal projects - here's one: http://www.ponderosamillworks.com

Jordan commented on Anti-Idling

Great idea, Cheryl! I'm glad you included truck idling, which is common at grocery stores where long-haul trucks with refrigerated trailers have to idle to keep their refrigerators running. Maybe Sunnyvale can encourage or require developers to provide electric shore power hook ups for any new location that will have long-haul trucks parked. Here's a technology that was developed for this purpose: http://www.shorepower.com/
