For those interested, the material is Europium-doped Strontium Aluminate (SrAl2O4:Eu), with Dysprosium-doped being a second option. It is a non-hazardous and non-radioactive substance that uses phosphorescence to absorb UV light and emit it as visible-spectrum light. For maximum effectiveness, select green (highest lumens), a large particle size (60-85 microns), and suspend it in a transparent medium like epoxy or acrylic in a 1:5 ratio.

Whoa, this is an awesome venture and idea Kaitlin! It's really cool how you identified a source of useful byproducts and developed different applications for them. The products look delicious too! I would love to learn more about your process and inspiration. I'm not sure if you've seen our venture: UPDATES! RISE- Recycling Food Ver. X where we're trying to convert waste from breweries into a source of food. I'm sure that we can collaborate since we share the same vision. Would you like to do a google hangout sometime? Great points Daniel Kurzrock , and I'm looking forward to your new flavors. I agree, and informatics is just a small part of our project. We are working with the brewers to help redesign their waste disposal process so that it not only becomes easier for them, but also convenient for us to collect and store the grain. 

For intermediate processing like drying and milling, there are some urban facilities on a small scale but they're too distributed and disconnected right now. Since the materials are dry, heavy and wet, a local intermediary process is necessary not only to preserve it, but also make it cheaper and easier to store and transport. Whether it is a prerequisite or not we'll have to figure out down the line. The only other cheap alternative to mechanical drying is chemical preservation through antioxidants, but that is a temporary and unhealthy placeholder.
