Definitely, if our vision is realized, and upcycled plant protein replaces meat, then the byproducts of barley harvesting (stalks, roots, etc.) can be digested into fuel instead of being inefficiently used as feedstock!

We're based in Brooklyn too, and I believe our paths have crossed in the past. Looking forward to having a conversation and possibly collaborating.

Thank you Julian. Anaerobic digestion can turn spent grain into biogas, which can then be used as fuel in any step of the process. In fact, the most efficient way to produce and use it would be in-house. Any brewery is capable of powering 50% of its operations if they turned their spent grain and yeast into fuel. Weihenstephan in Bavaria has already started doing this, while the Alaskan Brewing Co. combusts the spent grain as fuel.
