Really cool idea—what's some of the feedback you've been getting from your prototype? And what changes will you make based on the feedback?

Hi Apiya,

I love this idea—Boda Boda drivers are such an essential part of the fabric of Kampala, so it's great to think about how they might be part of solutions like this.

One question I have—do you need a full partnership before you can test parts of this idea? Can you begin testing the incentives, communications, etc. without relying on building a full partnership? At IDEO.org we believe in breaking a concept down into the essential questions we need to answer, and building small-scale prototypes to find the answers.

For example, if one of your questions is "will women call in when they need a ride?" you could find 20 trustworthy boda-boda drivers to start with, and give women your phone number. You could be the dispatcher and see if women actually do call in, when and why.

Otherwise, great idea!

Hi Kavita and team,

Great work on putting such a comprehensive proposal together. I'm inspired by your work at Kranti, and can't wait to see what you continue to do with your momentum.

You said that "the only way to prototype this idea is to build it," but much of what we do at IDEO.org is prototyping hard-to-test ideas, and based on my experience I'd say that it's very possible to prototype this without building the whole thing. In fact, building a large-scale prototype risks failure at a large-scale, while small-scale prototypes of the critical components of this system allows you to learn before building at a larger scale. So I would love to know what the big questions or risks are in Ignition, and how you might test them at a small scale?

For example, if one big question is "will women feel safe dancing in the outdoor patio area?" could you rope off a section of the neighborhood and offer a dance class to see how people react?

Otherwise, great work!
