Hello Lauren Ito , When we reference a standard of care we are referring to a general set of practices that are adhered to regardless of where a patient is seen - this standard of care ensures that all patients receive treatment that is proven to be effective. We are proposing a standard of care that focuses on the health of new mothers after they are discharged from the hospital. We have found that there is very little currently done to ensure mothers are screened for life threatening illnesses. Specifically, we have proposed a checklist that could be performed at a pediatrician's office during the babies regularly scheduled checkups. This checklist is simply a tool to help clinicians remember to asses the apparent health of the mother to prevent her from being overlooked.
