I'm a second year student at Wilfrid Laurier, pursuing a Bachelor's degree of Business Administration. I'm working towards a supply-chain management concentration and entrepreneurship core. I have an interest in entrepreneurship and sustainability and I believe that businesses should not have to choose between being profitable and being sustainable - operating in a sustainable way should create the most viable business model. Overall, I think every business should have the triple bottom line of people, planet, and profit.
I'm not sure if you've heard of it, but Lush is a very popular brand in North America that takes pride in hand made and natural products. It reminds me a lot of your idea, so looking at their business model could be helpful to see if you might have a gap in any areas since I imagine your business models would be very similar! (Or, see what gaps Lush has in their business model and see if you could innovate it to create a better model!)
Hi Jess, your insight form working in hospitals is really interesting.!
The soap isn't designed to work while dry, only be distributed and sold as a dry product. To activate the soap water is added when washing your hands/body/hair until it turns back into liquid soap and then water is used as normal to wash and rinse the soap away. Besides the actual product having less water in it, I don't see any less water being used when actually washing.
As for harshness, I've used it and don't think it is any harsher on the skin. In fact, one of my coworkers used my prototype of the hand soap and found it actually left her hands softer than normal soap.
I think other household products is an amazing area to expand into! I've also had suggestions from my prototype testers to develop toothpaste, mouthwash, and shaving cream.
I'd love to hear if you think there would be any other issues from a use standpoint. Thanks so much for your comment!
