Another thought: I'll see if I can talk to a few HR researchers in the Cornell school of Industrial and Labor Relations to see if they'd be willing to offer input the experiment design and reviewing some of the feedback we collect.

I like where you're going with this!
What if we put together a small controlled experiment with two groups of recruiters. One group who reviews mullet resumes for a pool of applicants, and a control group of recruiters who reviews the standard resumes for the same pool of applicants.

We could compare:
Total number of applicants selected
Which applicants were most appealing
How long it took to review resumes
How enjoyable the screening process was for recruiters
etc.

If something like that sounds good, I'll draft up a full proposal and email it your way. If you can find a group of recruiters who are willing to participate, I'm sure I'll be able to find a mass of eager applicants at Cornell who would be happy to submit some real mullets!
