We can access the information on households without electricity, running water, internet access and digital devices from the census data. Empowerment should be driven primarily by those whom it is intended to benefit – poor and excluded groups. Marginalized people and their organizations need to be in the driving seat, whether leading on their own, with allies, or exploring and co-creating solutions with government. Marginalized groups should be asked their priorities, their priorities should not be determined by a consultant. And they should be empowered to repair their own houses, do their plumbing, their electrical this will create community buy in/ownership and sustainability.
This project is a great idea, while we are not off the grid however the cost of electricity is quite high and struggling families cannot afford the monthly charges so families revert to using candles and kerosene lamps which sometimes results in fires which destroys family home and all their possessions. We wish you all the best for this initiative.
This is a very innovative idea and its encompasses environment and gender a quite a few of the SDG's we too are looking at ways to rehabilitate GBV survivors using artistic production, climate adaption and skills development. All the best for on this initiative.
