Architect | Educator
I have 35 years experience in the building delivery industry beginning as a carpenter before becoming a general contractor and ultimately an architect. I have deep experience in the design and construction of modular buildings and education facilities. I have managed complex university projects up to US$40 million and hold degrees in Philosophy and Architecture.
My interest in helping refugees grows from a lifelong commitment to providing an architecture for humanity and wanting to focus the balance of my career on developing life affirming and democratic solutions for these people.
Just had a discussion with Ike and Kathy at Heroku about using low horsepower devices i.e. older laptops, to deploy web apps. Currently these older laptops are not powerful enough or capable of running modern deployment software such as MongoDB, the MySQL engine or mobile emulators.
Heroku's solution is to provide the heavy lifting in the cloud which gives new value to these old, out-dated devices. Something to consider when accepting donations.
Neato. Looking forward to following this as we will be building a mobile app to connect health related services in Za'atari and the much larger refugee community outside the camp. Do you have a health care category as one of your data sets?
