Thank you so much Bettina! We are so much interested to initiate developmental screening test in Nepal. We are doing a pilot study on developmental screening test. Physiotherapist and Paediatrician is discussing on this. Bettina! we need technical support from you. I hope you will help us providing your valuable guidances to successfully implement developmental screening test in Nepal.

Bettina! Thank you so much once again for raising such an important question and giving us an opportunity to brainstorm in this very important part.

Health workers in the health post are not aware about children developmental screening test. Hence, giving knowledge about the children screening tests and implementing is soon also our on the main objectives. Children screening tests have not been properly implemented or it can be said that has never been implemented in any of the Health center of Nepal which is actually so very important.

Thank you so much Bettina for your comments and interest in our idea. We really appreciate your queries. Yes I am involved in SOS Children's Villages Nepal.

I along with my team members would like to extend this service to the community people as well.

We would like to implement this idea collaborating with medical doctors, physiotherapist and medical team of Vinayak Hospital and Maternity Home Pvt. Ltd.

Definitely, we would like to create awareness using media especially local FM stations, local newspaper, focal person of the community such as head of women's group, mother's group, community leaders and key influencers of the community. This will help us to reach our information in the community very easily. Additionally utilizing local infrastructures for education/ lectures for parents will make them feel easy and comfortable. Simultaneously, for busy parents, information can be provided during home visits.

For Mission's Question:

1. It was due to the lack of knowledge on child development. Yes we do have idea to improve it. Every child has to be taken for vaccination repeatedly after birth. Health workers do not know about 0-5 years old children screening tests. At first we will discuss about normal developmental milestones with them with visual charts, then give knowledge of children screening test (0-5 years). At least they can note Developmental Quotient (DQ) of the children who come for vaccination. This will definitely help for early reference.

2. It is neither a point of contact for outreach nor a referral base. One of her neighbors said that her child has some problem so she was taken to the Ayurvedic Hospital, just to check if everything was fine or not. She had not thought about the developmental issues her son was going through. At hospital, she was told that everything was fine. That’s why she took her son there.

3. She did not have any knowledge about developmental delay. Neither her family members nor her health workers knew about it. Hence she was also told that some children take time to walk and talk. So by the age of 3-4 years , her son will start to talk and walk. But finally she realized herself and was brought to the hospital which the chief complains of not being able to talk and walk.

This is all due to the lack of knowledge of developmental delay and lack of awareness in the health post.
