I love this idea! I am a nurse and see older adults decompensate quickly when they have little to stimulate them in their older years. Connecting with the younger generation makes a huge difference to them. It is a win win situation....younger folk get to learn from the wisdom of a person with a lifetime of experience and the older folk get stimulated with ideas and energy of the younger people. I heard of a program that matches healthy seniors with kids who need someone to walk with to and from school. With two parents working, most families could use help. What a brilliant idea this is....seniors have a purpose and a reason to exercise and families get the reassurance that their children will get to and from school safely. We need more ways to help seniors feel as though they are valued...we would do well to take a page from many of our European neighbors. Many countries feel it is an honor to serve those that have lived a lifetime-they are revered instead of forgotten.
