In the world food waste, more than a third of food production is wasted. This is equivalent to 1'300 million tonnes per year. Hunger is present in hospitals as well and is a challenge for existing hospital malnutrition, a food that all foods. Bogotá is the city that most wastes food in the country. This occurs in low-income hospitals that are oblivious to the government and do not have the capacity to provide these specific diets to patients with catastrophic illnesses.
Our idea is to collect the over-abundance of food in the largest market place in Bogotá (Corabastos), to avoid that these foods, victims of marketing, that still serve are discarded. Also contributing to the planet. In order to take it to low-income hospitals, where there are high rates of hospital malnutrition in catastrophic diseases. This to give them fortified diets in an excellent presentation and thus improve their food, hence their quality of life.
Patients with catastrophic illnesses benefit in low-income hospitals. Among them also hospitals that invest very little money for the improvement of their patients. Also benefiting people who can work in transporting food to hospitals for treatment.
Our idea is unique because through design we implement an entire Integrated Food Collection System for totally different purposes that focus on human problems, but also respond to problems of the planet. In this system there are elements designed designed for people and their work in the system. One thinks of a service, for all. Stakeholders and the patient. It also innovates in the creation of new products with human-centered design purposes. This idea is unique since our Vita System is a union of products that through a network of people, who prosper, generate a service, that help the environment, in order to improve the quality of life of people. This is done by collecting food in over-abundance that prevents waste and feeds patients in cases of malnutrition.
