VITARIA In the world food waste, more than a third of food production is wasted. This is equivalent to 1'300 million tonnes per year. Hunger is present in hospitals as well and is a challenge for existing hospital malnutrition, a food that all foods. Bogotá is the city that most wastes food in the country. Of a million and a half of waste, the genres of the capital 40 percent of which recover 6,000 tons of food, which helps 265,000 people. That is, development is possible if there is recovery of food that went in order to be desperate. The biggest waste is presented with fruits and vegetables with 58.8 percent of these foods that go to the cup. In the second place, the roots and tubers (cassava and papa, for example), all the two lumps, one goes to the trash. Marketing is also to blame for the waste of 36 percent of fruits and vegetables. In many cases, for example, products are discarded for containing traces of soil, have a black piece or deformities that, apparently, do not like consumers. If that food had any value, its cost would exceed 45,365 million pesos ($ 16 million) annually, which are literally discarded. This takes into account that Bogotá's genres of 6,576 tons per day of waste per ton are worth 90,000 pesos. It is an expensive and alarming desperation in a city where there is hospital malnutrition in patients with catastrophic diseases (such as congenital heart defects, any cancer, chronic renal failure, organ transplants, etc.). These diseases are expensive and very careful. Especially in your dietary care, since you should be sure for a good recovery of the patient. It is proven by the United States Department of Health that fruits and vegetables contain vitamins and minerals, which contain antioxidants. It is very important to collect foods that are really good but that are going to be discarded by deformities or what they like patients. This in order to avoid wastage of food and to contribute to the specific diet of patients with catastrophic diseases. In many cases after the diagnosis of cancer, drastically changed goals in relation to diet that is especially followed during and after treatments for cancer cases such as surgeries, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and biological therapy. That is why the importance of maintaining a balanced and unique diet for each patient, who has a specific case. It is a challenge to provide an excellent fortified food, which is totally apart from the normal food that the hospital offers. This is because in the city of Bogotá there are indices of hospital malnutrition. This occurs in low-income hospitals that are oblivious to the government and do not have the capacity to provide these specific diets to patients with catastrophic illnesses. EXPLAIN YOUR IDEA Our idea is to collect the over-abundance of food in the largest market place in Bogotá (Corabastos), to avoid that these foods, victims of marketing, that still serve are discarded. Also contributing to the planet. In order to take it to low-income hospitals, where there are high rates of hospital malnutrition in catastrophic diseases. This to give them fortified diets in an excellent presentation and thus improve their food, hence their quality of life. WHO BENEFITS? Patients with catastrophic illnesses benefit in low-income hospitals. Among them also hospitals that invest very little money for the improvement of their patients. Also benefiting people who can work in transporting food to hospitals for treatment. HOW IS YOUR IDEA UNIQUE? Our idea is unique because through design we implement an entire Integrated Food Collection System for totally different purposes that focus on human problems, but also respond to problems of the planet. In this system there are elements designed designed for people and their work in the system. One thinks of a service, for all. Stakeholders and the patient. It also innovates in the creation of new products with human-centered design purposes. This idea is unique since our Vita System is a union of products that through a network of people, who prosper, generate a service, that help the environment, in order to improve the quality of life of people. This is done by collecting food in over-abundance that prevents waste and feeds patients in cases of malnutrition.
