Alyssa commented on Tibeb Girls Program

Hi Brukty Tigabu - really excited to hear more from you on this project. We're hoping to bring the stories to life of our fellows in India, but we're still some time away from seeing it happen. Good luck!

Hi Dr. Sara Saeed Khurrum

We really appreciate you taking the time to review the program. I'm glad to hear that your team is also doing such interesting work with access to health care!

This year we are really working to examine the challenges that we have faced during our pilot as well as to explore outside feedback on the impact of the fellows. With our program working in incredibly remote rural and tribal areas, we have faced some issues in being able to reach out to communities who are as isolated as some of the areas that we are working in. It has been a great help to have the help of the government in reaching out in states like Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. It has also really driven us to think about our definition of impact and how we should be working geographically. We have since tailored the program to scale in a geographically closer model so that Girl Icons can have support from both partnering non-profits as well as nearby alumni.

We also face challenges in striving to overcome social barriers such as early child marriage. We often find that we need to work with the family as well in order to make a holistic impact. The peer groups have been incredibly helpful in providing the fellows with support and helping to strengthen a fellows' approach to change in their community.

Looking forward to hearing more from you in the future!

Thank you so much Kate Rushton

We're looking forward to hearing more from your team on our improvements! We've joined the Delhi chapter and would love to hear more from them on the project!
