I am a former Pastor, now a Hospice Chaplain. I came into these careers after a life-changing experience of losing my sister to breast cancer (she was 39 and I was 42). I also spent a few years as a CFO for a multi-speciality medical clinic. I think these experiences have given me a fairly well-rounded perspective on both the beauty and the pain of end of life transitions. I appreciate the respectful approach of these ten steps. When hospice works well, it is when the patients are captain of their own journey (medical, spiritual, emotional, psycho-social) to the end of life. I have also provided pastoral/spiritual care for patients in hospital settings. I often wish that patients had a holistic team approach (like with hospice) regardless of whether they meet the specific 'medicare' requirements to be covered under hospice. I am very interested in participating in this IDEO collaboration.
