I am passionate about:
sharing what I've learned about death, loss, and grief with anyone who is interested in learning. I study how social media and digital technology is being used to cope with tragedy. I also study how museums about tragedy serve as healing spaces.
A little known fact about me is:
that I know how to play the chimes and played them at the U. of IL in Altgeld Hall.

Professor of Social Work
I was born in Nashville, IL. Attended the U. of IL as an undergraduate (psychology), received my MSW and PhD at Washington University in St. Louis. Did one of my MSW practicums in a funeral home. Practiced social work in medical, psychiatric, and hospice settings. Teach in a BSW program Siena College and have taught online courses related to "death and grief in the digital age". Enjoy learning about death and grief-related issues in popular culture and incorporate these topics in my teaching to make thanatology relatable to those who are reluctant to talk about these issues.
