The DC Food Recovery Group has already begun to have an impact on food recovery in DC, organizing a week of action with over 20 (mostly) free educational and hands on events. This was done with zero budget. The ideas proposed here have the potential to go a long way in a city that is ready for this effort. A little funding in DC can go a long way -- businesses want to do the right thing and donate, residents want to compost, an urban gardening community has already paved the way with community composting at gardens, and the DC Food Policy Council has made food waste a priority, among other factors. Now is the time to implement these strategies and remove barriers to food recovery in DC!
