I dance. I think. I sing. I teach. I try to expand my teaching in innovative ways. For over 20 years I have taught a variety of movement disciplines to ages 18 months to senior adults in every type of setting. I have developed a curriculum called The Dancing Year which incorporates movement throughout the preschool curriculum. It uses music, dance, games, books, scarves, hoops, fabric, and more to explore dance concepts (shape, space, time, energy) which are transferable to academic subjects. It expands on themes like animals, environments, holidays, and different cultures using movement.
Hi, Park, Yes we seem simpatico ! Love that you used the word joy. The "educationese" that continues to turn up in planning and curriculum and development can be uninspiring. And the arts are seldom mentioned specifically. The theater project sounds great...kind of reminds me of parent/toddler class I taught using movement and music but inevitably incorporating books, stories, songs and props. Would be happy to connect.
Yours is a well researched and organized project. Mine is at the exploratory stage and it is so inspirational and helpful to read about other projects. I wonder if you have heard of the Lullabye project run out of Carnegie Hall, NYC? Professional musicians work with new parents to help them compose personalized lullabies for their babies creating and reinforcing connections between parents and children, and, of course, more language and sounds for brain growth ! Best of luck ....
