Red Elephant commented on The GBV Help Map

Thank you Janice! Your comments and feedback are certainly valued!
In the pilot stage, there were about 700 women who reported back saying they found help successfully, and most of these women were spread out across South Asia and parts of Africa, with a few in the United States. What was interesting at this point was that the women who accessed the map were first-timers with no formal training on how to use the platform. That made it clear that the platform was easy to use. However, we did understand that there were a few questions in their mind as to which one was "better" when they had more than one provider to choose from. At this point, I had the benefit of being supported by World Pulse, an initiative for women by women, through which I had brilliant mentors who guided me on mapping the resources and structuring training programs - and we came to a conclusion together internally, that it was not a good idea to rate or qualitatively present organizations on superlative scales because of subjectivity concerns, and highly individualised experiences defining ratings. Another important learning during the pilot stage was the need to make it wholesome, inclusive of training. At this point, in a more future facing way, the project is poised at:
- Delivering the app as a map
- Structuring training programs around the following:
(a) Information for women and girls on how to stay safe physically and how to respond to violence if they are in such a situation
(b) Information for women and girls on how to operate digital tools to not only access information such as the map, but to also speak out against violence on platforms and
(c) Information and tools for women and young girls to cope with trauma, to heal from trauma, and to reclaim their lives.
Right now, the app is getting ready, and the training programs have begun to take off on ground. In terms of what we want to do next, expansion would be to include more verified organizations to the map, to get the app off floors and to take the app forward through organizations, colleges and other avenues through a service delivery model!
