At least in the US I could see this either replacing home ec or it could be supplemented as part of the biology curriculum in many ways.

Sharon DCosta  I would say in the US, we often order appetizers to share, but then order separate main courses. I'll often share a single meal with my wife, but not so often with friends.

Part of the problem is that we feel the need to get the most value for our money. When I worked at a farm-to-table restaurant called Black Cat in Boulder, CO, they had a 7-course menu that was very popular. It was great because you got lots of small servings to try, but they also made sure nobody went home hungry. By sending out small portions they had to dump a lot less food that came back unfinished (as compared to full entrees), but they always were willing to send out another course if someone was still hungry to make sure they felt that they got what they paid for.
