"Be the reason someone believes in the goodness of people. — Unknown"
As an HR professional in the international humanitarian sector, I've worked in South Sudan on and off since 2013. In 2014, I learned the remarkable story of Seeing Hands. A team of blind massage therapists in Juba, they opened their clinic just one day before the civil war started. Persevering ever since, they have inspired countless individuals along the way. Having recently collaborated with Seeing Hands on funding for a more permanent structure for their business, I am now delighted to join Virginia Williams in liaising with partners for We Can! to expand upon the Seeing Hands' model.
I am just back from South Sudan where I was able to see the tremendous need for "WeCan!" firsthand. It's the world's newest country, plagued by civil war since 2013. The situation is dire, particularly for individuals with disabilities. They need options for income generation as well as products and services to facilitate daily living.
As Catherine, a blind massage therapist at Seeing Hands in Juba, said recently, "Disability is not inability." We hope this project helps spread her important message.
Thank you for this opportunity, and please let us know if you have any questions!
