This is good. I first interacted with Mkulima Young almost two years ago through facebook. I remember i was looking for any one doing the hydroponics in Kenya. Out of a google search his facebook page came and within a very short time from his platform i had got numerous answers to my problem.
I personally train rural youth in Kenya on technology and agriculture is an integral part of most of the activities we encourage youth to undertake. Over 80% of our youth in rural areas now can access internet from the mobile phones and with the invent of smartphones it has become so easy for them to make use of mobile applications as well as the main stream social media.
Upon meeting Mkulima young and getting to know the other platforms that they have developed, in my organization we have included his platforms as part of our training modules for technology in the villages.
The usability of the mkulima young mobile app can not be underestimated since it's structure is simple and rural youth find it so easy to use it. Through this we have made it possible for more youth to engage in Agriculture as well as share their experiences over the platform. Thanks to the initiator of this.
However for now the youth are getting all this valuable information for free and would wish if you could bring in a cost element mainly at the level of either selling their products which make it more sustainable. I believe that information is power and many youth even in the rural would pay to get it especially like this agriculture based information since it helps them directly.
