I really like the idea of 'match making' people of related disciplines to work together on a challenge, pulling together various expertise and experience. A suggestion would be to trigger a conversation with a potential member first (perhaps with suggested prompts/ questions) before adding them into the same team, to prevent any awkward situations.

However, I think it's precisely this knee-jerk reaction where people think back about personal examples, that will trigger them to empathize better and spark interest to the challenge.
