Internet was the most powerful tool that helped finding all the information that I needed. I got the scholarship for studying abroad with a government foundation of Colombia by the name of Colfuturo. It took me a year planning all the project of doing my postgraduate studies abroad, so it required time and persistence figuring out by my own all alternatives for obtaining a scholarship.
Your story sounds pretty familiar to me because that is exactly what it happens in my home country, Colombia. In general, there are many scholarships available in Colombia that are being wasted since there is a small number of applicants interested. People in the country complains about the lack of information to find out the different options of scholarships available in the market. Talking from my personal experience, I believe that the opportunities for studying are just there in the market waiting for people to get them. However, they just don't realise about it. It is about having the initiative, the attitude and the persistence in the research stage. This is my theory: the reward of a earning a scholarship should award the students that are always curious and motivate of never give up for finding all the alternatives avaible to afford the education cost.
