Depending on the institution that is providing the course, obtaining a degree from an online university can dilute the purpose of university, a degree and the hard work. Some courses can be good, don't get me wrong, but others can be a quick and easy way to get your name on a piece of paper. One of the most important parts of university is the face time with teachers to learn, gain first hand information, share, collaborate and build networks. I always see advertisements for a one year MBA programs done online in your spare time and when it suits you, but how does this compare to the MBA program I am doing at a university?! Does sitting in front of a computer really teach you how to manage people, communicate and build your knowledge!?
