Ernesto commented on dementia diaries: a Netflix original series

I think this is a cool idea-- if done respectfully and empathetically there is lots of potential. Other TV series and medical dramas have focused on for example disability, or Cancer, HIV, but dementia, Parkinson's remain woefully under-represented, perhaps because the behaviours caused by dementia can be often so hard to witness and therefore represent. There is lots of potential in the streaming TV serial narrative model because it fosters engagement. I am not sure about how retentive Netflix the company are about their branding but the idea itself is important as it embraces a way in which a lot of people are engaging with media and understanding storytelling and therefore other human beings... I think new forms of audio visual narrative have the potential to increase awareness about dementia - and unlike VR, you don't need a clunky visor, gloves, etc...

This is a very cool idea, thank you for mentioning Parables of Care. Very important. My dad had dementia the last years of his life and not having relevant materials/literature in Spanish was always a problem-- even if he himself was multilingual, but his carers weren't... Our work is licensed CC-BY-NC so the comic can be translated without permission within the terms of the license. For other uses just contact us. We have received requests for translations-- there's no legal nor technical barrier to do it and we'll be happy to collaborate. Once again it's all about having the support to do it ;). Good luck with this idea, Anna Lee!
