Hi Chri, I really like your project! It's really original and I find the Garbage Insurance a very innovative concept responding to a pressing need. My question would be around data you have to support the technical qualities of the plastic lumber and it's properties since you are talking about construction / building. (consumer safety is what's in my mind when I ask this) Maybe you could include a link to this information. Well done and good luck with the challenge! Arianne Arianne
Hi Isaac, I'm happy you like the idea. I have indeed talked to designers and crafts people. Some ideas of materials are leather offcuts, bicycle tubes, laminates (like formica), acrylic, rubber tires, wooden pallets, wine bottles, cork. The upcyclers I've talked to focus on furniture and source materials from the construction industry or refurbishing of buildings and offices, so it is a space that is already serviced. Thanks for your question. I'll make sure to integrate my idea proposal with my findings so far. I will also try to reach out to Terracycle to gain some insights in waste handling and processing.
Hi Amy, Great idea! I think it is very well thought out. You have done first hand human centered research and iterations of your prototype, which is great. I love that it has multiple uses and is low tech, therefore accessible to the people you are designing for. Good luck!
