This is a idea which i have framed, needs UNICEF and UNHCR to act on it.
Use a mobile, self-paced education, along with technology like skype and school-box
Hi,
I have heard about this idea, when i participated in educating girls competition, just a suggestion at some refugee camps esp girls has to do their house hold works, so they get less time to for education, probably if we can have a moving van that serves as an library it would be helpful, along with idea box. More over we can have a tie up with some mobile companies, to use a recycle mobiles so we can have more no of devices what i have understood is the basic requirement is a pdf reader and a media player, the vans can also serves as an service point where students can browse the internet and recharge the devices. Additionally we can have the materials in e-form so we can just change the memory card you can have look at this idea and can discuss it with the UNHCR innovation team https://openideo.com/challenge/refugee-education/ideas/nss-credit-based-education-using-technology this idea got a lot of appreciation from them, if you can login in to the UNHCR innocation site you can check the discussion, it will be very useful to expand this concept
Thanks
Venkatesh
Main challenges in ELearning
1)No of devices to student ratio : Make a collaboration with mobile companies, do a mobile recycle event where people may contribute for the cause and these mobiles can be distributed to more children with a preloaded course materials. Media player and Pdf readers are required.
2)No of teachers to student ratio : Use National social credit scheme, where interested students will be shortlisted by schools and colleges who can take sessions through skype. Then form the teachers from the group.
3)Network challenges : we can address this only by having offline content, alternatively E-Bus can have preloaded contents in the memory card that can be used in the mobile phones.
4)Time for education : make it as a self learning process
5)School Buildings:e-Bus can be the alternative, where lib etc can be created along with a staff. through skype students can get their clarification cleared.
6)Curriculum : major challenge is the curriculum, some countries like kenya has digital content, but not all so please try to have a tie up with org like GED, so that a standard curriculum gets established so that e-learning is not just for knowledge, an equivalent school degree certificated is provided, which helps the student in career.
