Computer/math/chemistry/physics type turned social scientist. Have written about communities of organizations and inter-organizational collaboration, the sociology of time, and the sociology of information and notification. Longstanding: education innovation; of late, innovation education. I teach (GIS, simulation, design thinking, social control, social psychology, network analysis) in sociology, public policy, and the business school at Mills College in Oakland where I am the Lorey I Lokey Chair in Ethics and I direct the InnnovationLab@Mills. Outside of work I build things.

I recently completed the PhD program at the University of Georgia in Learning, Design, and Technology. I have a background in computer science with a BS from Georgia Tech and a MS from Virginia Tech. My research involves studying and developing informal learning environments that exposes business, engineering, art, technology, and science students to interdisciplinary collaboration, challenge-based learning, entrepreneurship, and design thinking. My mission is to empower people to make great products that affect the world.
