Submit your idea to the Women’s Safety Challenge. Keep in mind that adding your own ideas and collaborating with others on their ideas are equally important – and helpful.
A subset of the best ideas move onto the Refinement phase. During this phase we’ll be asking our community to collaboratively strengthen our selected ideas, helping them achieve even greater impact.
At the end of the challenge, the Amplify Team will announce a Shortlist of the most innovative ideas and award up to $500,000 in funding as well as design support to a handful of those ideas. .
Safety is a basic human right. But for the millions of women and girls living in low-income urban communities across the world, personal safety can be difficult to achieve – giving way to gender-based violence, social isolation or a lack of basic social services. With this challenge, we are asking individuals and organisations around the world to share ideas and collaborate together to help create solutions that make cities a safer and more empowering environment for women and girls.
WHY AN URBAN FOCUS
It is widely acknowledged that women and girls living in low-income urban contexts are disproportionately affected by safety hazards such as gender-based violence, unstable housing and inadequate sanitation facilities or lighting. As more and more people in developing countries migrate into cities from more rural areas, finding effective safety solutions for women and girls becomes increasingly urgent.
WHAT WE’VE LEARNED SO FAR
During the Research phase, the OpenIDEO community identified six Opportunity Areas for this challenge and a set of Design Principles. They are a great place to get inspiration for our ideas.
