Food Waste Challenge: Keeping a Food Waste Diary

Food is a core part of the human experience, yet annually we waste a third of all of the food produced worldwide. We’ve heard so far that an obstacle to addressing waste is that many people aren’t aware of the food they’re tossing away. To address this, we’re launching #Unwasted, a series of collaborative efforts that highlight the food we throw out every day.

Join us in this global effort —watch your personal food waste for a week and post your completed Food Waste Diaries in the Food Waste Challenge in order to fuel learnings about our waste habits and spark creative opportunities for reducing our waste!

This will be a great opportunity to share your experience with our global community. You won't want to miss this – a few contributors will be featured in our Unwasted pop-up magazine, and may be selected to have their scraps turned into a signature dish by one of our celebrity chefs in our upcoming Unwasted Cookoff!

3 STEP GUIDE FOR PARTICIPATING:

  1. Track your waste for a week using our Food Waste Diary

  2. Post your completed Food Waste Diaries on the Food Diaries Opportunity Area in the Food Waste Challenge by September 16 (don't skip this step if you want a shot at being featured in our pop-up magazine or getting your food scraps #unwasted by a celebrity chef)!

  3. Share photos of your diary and related food along the way on Twitter and Facebook with the #Unwasted hashtag (and don't forget to tag @OpenIDEO)
