Hi, thanks for visiting. We’re trying to make OpenIDEO as accessible as possible so that everyone can take part and help us solve social challenges. That’s why we’ve recently made some improvements to make it easier to use our site if you’re accessing it via a screen reader.
Where to start
To get familiarized with how the site works, we have a video to help you get started.
How to get around
The top of each page has skip links that will help you jump right to the main sections of the page. The most important one will take you to the main content, but depending on the page, you might also find links to:
  • The menu for the phases: Research, Ideas, Refinement, and Evaluation
  • An activity feed so you can quickly read what’s happening in the challenge
On pages with a research or idea, you will find links to:
  • Discussion from other users (and a link for you to comment, too)
  • Statistics about the post (and links where you can applaud or bookmark it)
  • Related posts (so you can see how it is building through collaboration)
  • And a link to share the page on social media sites.
We hope these links will help you find the major landmarks on each page.
How to adjust the the screen
If you have difficulty seeing, or need other help using the web, you can adjust the way the page is displayed . Your browser has controls to let you change the size of the text or make the colors of the links higher contrast. The BBC ‘ My web my way’ web site will guide you through making these changes.
You may also find it useful to change the default colors and fonts used on your computer. AbilityNet's ' My computer my way' web site has instructions for both Windows and Apple computers.
What you can’t access with a screen reader yet
You may find videos or other materials that the community has posted which are not entirely accessible because they come from other sites.
Help us improve
We know that we’ve still got more to do to make the site more accessible, so if you have any feedback for us about your experience, email us at
