Mr. Rogers "I like you just the way you are"

It is so important for a child to feel accepted, valued, recognized - just as he/she is. I often thought the statement was silly when I watched Mr. Rogers with my children, but I think I underestimated the value of this simple statement. When my son was in college he introduced me to this amazing testimony by Mr. Rogers in the US Senate. Mr. Rogers was testifying on the role of public television, but the larger message was on the needs of children. He wowed the Senate, which is saying quite a lot!

Mr. Rogers went on to build a television program that provided a safe and nurturing environment for children. What elements can we take and apply to in other formats, and how can we use them to nurture children?

Thank you for sharing this, truly inspiring. Just emphasizes how the kind messages we send to children can have an impact on them.
