Breastfeeding is the best way to feed an infant

Breastfeeding is still best. With rapid changes in the world, people need to be reminded that traditional ways of doing things (such as breastfeeding) may be the best practice for their baby and family. It provides the best nutrition and protection against disease. It fosters mother-infant bonding, and provides physical contact for mother and baby. I began my career working on the issue of breastfeeding, while a graduate student. My career moved in other directions, but this challenge reminds me how important the issue was, and still is. I'm hoping that this challenge will help us think of ways that technology can communicate the importance of breastfeeding and the traditions that support breastfeeding around the world.

Hi Tamar,

Wanted to ask about the case of multiple births such as twins, you could also incorporate an approach to help the mother cope with the feeding of two infants.

I'm not really sure of all my thoughts on this issue. It takes a lot of work from the mother to breastfeed twins, and the decision must be made by the mother. The advantages of breastfeeding might be outweighed by the huge demands on the mother, but if the mother is motivated there should be resources to support her.
