KEY INFLUENCERS

What people and institutions influence parents' beliefs and behavior in low-income communities around the world?

The relationship between children and their parents is formative, but it doesn't exist in a vacuum. Influencers and role models – friends, families, communities and societies –surround parents and children and affect their beliefs and behavior. Any solution we design in this challenge will need to take those people, associations and institutions into account.

In Tanzania, for example, local leaders called  Balozi, elected for every ten houses in a neighborhood, play a crucial role in distributing information and acting as a safety net for families.

After talking to young mothers at a local child-parent center in rural Vermont, one issue that kept coming is the social constraints young mothers had to go through and the lack of support some mothers experienced. All young mothers i came in contact

Today I visited the Parent Child Center in Middlebury, Vermont. It is a program that takes in young mothers and their children. It helps young mothers earn a high school degree, while at the same time providing child care services. I spent time talki

What people in low income communities might have a significant influence on children either directly or indirectly? We explored this at the London OpenIDEO meetup.

Research says that nutrition is important than the quantity of food. A human body needs two palms full of food each day, three times. Nutritious food can be as simple as seeds or plants grown in your backyard.
