Early Reflections on The Zero to Five Challenge

It's hard to believe that we have just announced the Top Ideas of the Zero to Five Challenge. Time has flown by and I know that I speak on behalf of the whole Amplify team when I say that we have been inspired by the number of high quality ideas with the potential for real world impact that have come out of this challenge! I know that many of you are continuing to work on your ideas and I hope that you use this space to share what you are up to with the OpenIDEO community, ask for help when you need it and tell us what you've been learning as part of our community. Here are a few things to kick us off!

At the beginning of this challenge we set out to harness the creativity, expertise and energy of people from around the world, including parents, educators, caregivers, students, designers, health care experts and many others. We hoped that through our combined effort, we'd design effective, human centered solutions to some of the challenges faced by the parents of young children. As you can see from the Top Ideas that we announced earlier today and the many other amazing ideas submitted in this challenge, we are well on our way to meeting this goal.

Some things we've learned:
Thoughtful feedback + engaged responses = great ideas
We were so lucky to have many experts involved in this challenge. Their feedback, either shared directly or on their behalf by a member of our team, provoked insightful responses, inspired the collection of user feedback and ultimately resulted in changes that strengthened many of our challenge ideas.

Our platform creates opportunities for meangingful connection
The comments revealed example after example where contributors to the challenge offered to share resources, make introductions, protoype the ideas of other teams and even meet up offline. Each time I read a post like this I did a little cheer – because I truly believe that sharing unleashes a power greater than any of our individual efforts. I always wonder 'what happened next?'  and hope that some of you post your stories to let us all know!

What's Next?
Experts and the Amplify team will be taking a closer look at our Top Ideas to determine a handful that will be eligible for funding and design support from designers. And of course, we'll be continuing to reflect on what we've been learning and apply it to our third challenge!

How you can join us
Keep collaborating, giving feedback and prototyping your ideas and be sure to keep us posted on your progress by adding an impact story of your own.
