Village to Village Health Campaign = Healthy Child!

Who will benefit from this idea and where are they located?

Beneficiaries are parents with children 5 years and below and antenatal and postnatal mothers located in rural Migeera, Nakasongola district in Uganda.

How could you test this idea in a quick and low-cost way right now?

Through consulting experts who have conducted research about impact of unhealthy on Child's development. Welcoming comments from social media when the idea is shared. Conducting simple survey to collect information from beneficiaries about the the approach

What kind of help would you need to make your idea real?

I welcome expert advice on how i can improve the approach. Suggestions on how we can engage the beneficiaries to create a sense of ownership of the idea. Suggestions on how each of the following packages in the idea can be improved to suit the beneficiaries

Is this an idea that you or your organization would like to take forward?

  • Yes. I am ready and interested in testing this idea and making it real in my community.

Barbara, my suggestion is to pay attention to other individuals/organisations in the market that could be offering some of these packages. You can different some insight on their activities and how you can improve them. Some include living Goods, RECO Industries PIN project http://pin.reco-industries.com/ etc. It will enable you develop an interesting approach to your campaign.

Thank you Richard. Looking forward to interacting with some of those organisations you have mentioned.
I have so far interacted with Gardens For Health an organisation based in Rwanda.

Barbara, great. Let me know if you need access to Living Goods. I know Gardens of Health. I have interacted with one of their core management members :)

Barbara, have you been able to do some research on this idea as suggested? if yes, has it helped you see your idea any different? My recommendation would be that from your learnings, you further make your idea as specific as possible. What is that one thing you would like to test? It seems still broad for now.

Richard,
Oh yes, I did some research and if you notice, i erased some components of the idea. Thank you for the links, were so helpful

I want to test the role played by health in a child's developmental milestones. I zeroed down to provision of child health care and health education to the caretakers.
Any ideas on how i can be more specific are most welcome.

Hi Barbara,

It's great that you are thinking about narrowing the scope of your idea. Do you have a sense of whether anyone else is working on antenatal and postnatal health in Migeera? Speaking to them might be a good place to start identifying gaps where services are needed. You might also speak to parents in those communities to get some insights into what their needs are and what might be useful for you to focus on.

Good luck!

Hi Chioma,
I spoke to the mothers and village health teams about needs assessment in the community and also about Antenatal and a postnatal care.
Well the surrounding health centres offer the services but the centres are too far from their homes so they end up attending antenatal once when they are going to give birth. Most of them miss out immunisation and postnatal care
So i thought of an outreach program to concentrate on increasing healthcare service delivery in communities.

Thank you for your contribution
