Sharing at Dinner Time

This idea consists of parents sharing with their children at dinner time the benefits of the foods that they are eating at the time. By the children learning about the food that they are eating, they are gaining knowledge that they can carry with them and use everyday.

This idea will work by parents talking to their children at dinner time about the foods that they are eating and what beneifits it has for your body as well as other health facts.  This will succeed becuse one of the best ways to spread knowledge is to pass it on from one person to another.

Who will benefit from this idea and where are they located?

Children and parents will benefit from this idea as children are learning the facts of what is healthy for them. Parents benefit from this by learning more about the foods they are eating themselves. You learn even more when you teach. This idea is for parents and children all over the world, but I will initiate the idea starting in my own community.

How could you test this idea in a quick and low-cost way right now?

To test this idea right now, I would start by finding sites and ways for parents to learn more about foods they are eating and what nutrients are in them. I would then direct the parents to these sites, and lastly, I would encourage them to share the information gathered about food with their children come dinner time.

What kind of help would you need to make your idea real?

I will need the help and cooperation of both parents and children to being open to receiving more information on health and their food at dinner time. I will need for children to be receptive to the information and for parents to be open to learning more about what they already knew about food and then sharing it with their children.

Is this an idea that you or your organization would like to take forward?

  • Yes. I am ready and interested in testing this idea and making it real in my community.

Great thought starter, Solwazi. With the focus of our Zero to Five Challenge being on the developing world - we wonder how this idea might evolve in countries that have less access to the internet. What changes would you need to make to this model? What new considerations might you need to add? Looking forward to seeing you continue to refine this idea.
