Little effort can make a big difference

The proposed center will collect toys, dolls, story books, comics and other kids’ materials from kids of well-off parents and keep them in the center. In this way, we encourage high-income group kids and the grown up kids to donate their less useful things to the needy kids. The proposed center intends to provide leaflets, pictorial posters depicting positive messages, awareness movie shows for parents and children, play station for children, library and counseling sections.

Every child needs parent’s love and care.  Children seek attention from parents for their needs. When they are ignored, they feel aloof and carry a belief that parents or care-givers are unapproachable, consequence of which they carry a deep-rooted negative feeling affecting their life. They should not be deprived of suitable environment for their mental, emotional and physical growth inside or outside house.  For their all-round development, hygiene and sanitation should be properly looked after, along with the timely balanced nutritional diet.

Parents should participate actively in a child’s proper upbringing especially up to the period where they cannot vocalize their wants and feelings freely.  Let a child realize that parents are putting in extra efforts and care.  Parent’s proper care for children makes children become better learners, gain better coping skills and are happier. An emotionally and physically grown healthy child has better learning skills, thoughts and understanding and hence, as they grow up, contribution and responsibilities towards family, society and nation are realized making this world a better place to live in.

It is a big challenge for the low income group parents to cope up with the proper upbringing for children. They labor hard in order to make their ends meet. They are emotionally stressed and financially stretched due to low-income and less opportunities. Psychology of a child or their extra care is not on their priority. Their mindset is all about survival needs only.

We need to aware parents about putting in extra efforts for the child’s development. Therefore, we propose a Children Awareness Center in the community of low-income group people.  This center should aim to make parents aware about their responsibilities towards their off-spring and how putting in some extra-care could result in better results with regard to positive development of their children. Parents should be able to teach their children in such a way that co-existence with the environment and society and respect for diversification are taken normally.  They should know about Safety and injury protection and awareness on violence.

Parents will always need to accompany their child while visiting the center. There will be volunteers to look after children and guide parents about the programs. We invite different experts on hygiene and sanitation, child nutrition, child psychology, safety, violence prevention like areas to deliver lectures on different topics in a simple manner so that parents realize and are encouraged to put extra efforts in love and care for their child’s overall development. We also propose drama shows in the community in local languages where we can deliver importance of parents to provide love, support and care to their children. We encourage the parents to share stories and challenges faced so that experts identify the areas to provide advice.

Who will benefit from this idea and where are they located?

Since this project is designed for low-income community. It will be directly beneficial to the low-income people. In developing country like Nepal there are lots of areas where we need to work. If I will have at least enough budget I would like to run at least one center in every region of Nepal. There will be targeted group from each region, Mushars inTarai Region Dalit in Hilly Region Sherpas in Himalaya Region But in limited budget I would like to start from Tarai Region. We can further study about the parental perception their needs and the changes and target can be achieved as per geographical condition or cultural background.

How could you test this idea in a quick and low-cost way right now?

As I have mentioned above I would do a camping where I would encourage the children from sound economic back ground to donate their old toys and books for needy children. Which will decrease the expenses and by reusing the things we can even be more nature friendly which can give good example in society? The money which we save can be used in some important project like free health check up center for a day where we can do the free checkup of children and run a awareness program relevant to health and hygiene

What kind of help would you need to make your idea real?

Is this an idea that you or your organization would like to take forward?

  • Yes. I am ready and interested in testing this idea and making it real in my community.

Great inspiration! Something we'd encourage you to think about is how you might update your Summary section (text above the image gallery) to encapsulate what your idea actually entails briefly and clearly.

Here's a template if you need some help, though feel free to come up with your own clarifying sentence structure.

Our idea is a_________________ [campaign/app/service/program/online platform/toolkit/social enterprise/etc.] that tackles the problem of _____________[the issue being addressed ] by __________[what your idea looks like in practice].
