leveraging the facilities

Child care centres and day care facilities are some of the amazing forms of service provided some of the organisations here in Kathmandu, Nepal. The demand for such facilities is very high and adequate facilities are not available. Apart from daycare facilities children need recreation and should find a space for them. Our house sizes are shrinking and inadequate playgrounds have been a major problem. As Nepal Country manager for this challenge I hope this idea can be helpful to the participants.

Our house sizes are shrinking, our playgrounds have become construction sites. Few facilities provide playing space for children but are beyond the reach of low income families. I visited two child care facilites dedicated to the low income families in the Kathmandu valley and found that children do need extra attention beyond the day care hours and parents need trainings aswell. Homenet Nepal and Orchid Garden Nepal have been doing an amazing job. 
When we think about using existing resources, we think about making maximum use out of what we have. Private Schools are widely spread in and around Kathmandu. Using their resources for children to play and educating parents who bring their children regarding child care would be something useful for the children and parents aswell. 

Who will benefit from this idea and where are they located?

Children who belong to the low income families of Kathmandu, and their parents who can not afford private playground facilities.

How could you test this idea in a quick and low-cost way right now?

Tests can be done in a low cost way with the children who have been going to child care centre operated by Homenet Nepal and day care facility of Orchid Garden Nepal. Convincing private school is another challenge. We will have to convince schools to open up for such facilities. Taking opinions of the parents from the targeted group.

What kind of help would you need to make your idea real?

Since it is all about collaboration, and this idea is never possible without collaboration, refining this idea is the first help. When executed this idea will not only help these children but also the children who attend the schools providing the facilities. The playgrounds will be provided with extra facilities that can be enjoyed by all group of children.

hello! this is a great concept and really inspiring. I think collaborating with the private schools is a great idea. Maybe you could also look at ways a community can come together and get involved in building low cost facilities for non private schools. This would bring the community together and get outcome would be children with more facilities.

Hi Agraj! Thank you for the great inspiration. What do you think about teaching parents to create safe entertainment items for children from existing materials they already have? Do you need volunteer help to implement this idea?

I highly appreciate your interest on this idea. I have posted this idea so that other participants would take over on this idea. This idea definitely needs volunteer support.
Regarding your idea, it is wonderful and we also have few landfill sites in Kathmandu. Here in Kathmandu, these sites are situated in sparsely populated areas, I do not know much about the areas you are targeting. I liked the idea very much and wish similar ideas would implement here.
