Healthy Food Stamps

Our idea is to provide food stamps to families with a child or children under the age of 5. These food stamps will be limited to only nutritional foods and things that are good for the child until age five.

It might succeed because food stamps have already been proven to work. This is just a deviation of food stamps that will have even more benefits than just regular food. These benefits include having a healthier life style, a more cost-effective shopping experience, and give children a chance at a better life.

Who will benefit from this idea and where are they located?

There are multiple people who can benefit from this idea. It will directly benefit children because it will give them a chance at a better life through nutritional foods. This will indirectly benefit the parents because it will help them financially by saving money through the food stamps and teaching them to eat better. Which gives them a better chance to improve their children's lives in other areas.

How could you test this idea in a quick and low-cost way right now?

You can create a small test group in a community. Select few families will get to try out these food stamps for the month.

What kind of help would you need to make your idea real?

We would need help in the way of having the support of the government and local stores. Big corporations could also help by providing sponsorships and donations.

Is this an idea that you or your organization would like to take forward?

  • This idea is meant to inspire. I hope someone else takes it on!

So interesting! Have you thought about how you would define 'healthy food' for children? Would it be a certain amount and number of vitamins and nutrients? A limited amount of fat, sugar, and sodium?

Would also be really interesting to create the parameters of 'health food' depending on geography; for example - how would a village in West Africa define healthy food, and would it be accessible, versus someone living in New York City?

We would define "Healthy Food" as necessary nutrients for proper development. A good example of this would be http://choosemyplate.gov. It has the proper foods and portions for children. One way to make this easily accessible to everyone would be to have it mobile like the Red Cross. They would travel and help poverty-stricken countries.
