Day to Day Bounding Calendar

Day-to-Day Bonding calendar helps parents to develop new bonds with their children every single day and give them best start in life! The strength of the relationship is the main predictor of how well the child will do in school and in life. The relationships are developed through experiences, and especially play is the best relationship builder. Thus, Day-to-Day Bonding calendar is a stimulating source of micro-activities for parents and their children that offer plenty of ways to play and learn everyday. Day-to-Day Bonding calendar is for anyone, but we believe that parents from low-income communities will especially benefit from it as it’s a simple analog product, and its production won’t demand high amount of economical resource

The calendar works as a constantly teacher of short activities between parents and children. This let them create strong bounds, while generate ideas that they share with the other parents once a month in the meeting school debates. In this sessions the parents talk about the experiences they had with their children.
Then everyone learn from each other and help others do the same. The Calendar has four parts: Amateur, Medium, High and Summer. Each last 3 months. The parents can get it in the same place where they buy the school books: bookstores, schools and department stores. Day to Day Bounding Calendar creates an activity routine and step by step the relation between Parents and Children becomes stronger.
After a few weeks activities become quite flexible so the parents can propose new ones with the same dynamic. We think that this could be something good for the community and finally for the children. It is cheap to produce, easy to implement and easy to scale.

Who will benefit from this idea and where are they located?

We designed this product thinking about parents from low-income communities living in Europe or other developed countries who are used to use these kind of analogue calendars. Nevertheless, we think anyone can access to this product, Day-to-Day Bonding calendar can be for every parent looking for ideas and activities to strengthen their relationship with their children, while helping them to thrive during the first 5 years of life.

How could you test this idea in a quick and low-cost way right now?

In order to test our idea, we would print 10-15 copies of the calendar ourselves (just with activities for one month) and we would distribute them to different parents from low-income communities who attend to Fundesplai in L ́Hospitalet (Barcelona, Spain) where we did our research. We would ask parents and their children to use this calendar during one month. Additionally we would give them a diary where they could write their impressions, observations and comments. After one month, we would interview parents and their children to get their feedback.

What kind of help would you need to make your idea real?

We would need help of experts to create an adequate content for the calendar. There are a lot of different activities we would need to come up with (around 360), but we need to ensure all of them are meaningful and they will really help parents to create stronger relationship and new ways of bonding with their child, while helping them to develop different abilities (social, artistic, cognitive, etc) Another thing we would need is funding to print calendars. We would look for sponsors who will support our project. Finally, we would need to engage with media to help us to communicate and spread information about our project and to collaborate with local stakeholders (organizations, shops, schools) to help us with the distribution of the product.

Is this an idea that you or your organization would like to take forward?

  • Yes. I am ready and interested in testing this idea and making it real in my community.
