1 Day = 1 Open Area for Children = 1 Playground

Our idea is a program to tackles the lack of children playground, especially in the landfill areas, by creating an open space with standard equipments in one day. This will challenge people all around the world to create an open space for children living in landfill areas in one day.

People living in urban area tend to forget to manage their waste carefully, it will end in landfill area to be filled by soil and it will stay there for the next hundred years. Unfortunately there are people and children living in that area, they need more access to their basic needs. Ultimately, children need more access to a clean area for them to play to.

How it works?
  • A group of 20-25 volunteers build an open space for children living in landfill area.
  • We need to ask permission from local authority to clean up about 15-16 meter square of landfills, and create a children playground on top of it.
  • After 6 hours non stop working in shift, project is completed. (Pic 3.)
Result?
  • 15 meter square open space for children to run and play (sliding and tires included) and space for parents to look after their children
  • There was no playground in this area before, children will running around with their friends on top of land full of waste. After this project finish, at least they have open area to play on
Playground tools
  • Sliding
    • Dig the soil evently about 15 metres long, with 15-20cm depth
    • Create a brick barrier around the area
    • Put a concrete block / cement to support the sliding leg
    • Fill the area with sands
  • Sandbox
    • Same treatment as playground slides
    • Consider to create a removable rain protector

Who will benefit from this idea and where are they located?

Children from 3 to 5 years will have a nice clean place to play!

How could you test this idea in a quick and low-cost way right now?

To test the idea we could: 1. Find a landfill area community to start with 2. Contact government institutions or local charity/volunteering/non-profit organizations to help conduct field research - survey and interviews to project potential response and enthusiasm 3. Look for success stories (this idea has been successfully tested in Indonesia)

What kind of help would you need to make your idea real?

1. Financial and/or material (Cost will be vary, depends on the broad of the open area available and the variation of amusement items.) === 2. Volunteer help === 3. Organizational help. === Volunteers and charity funds needed to start the project. Help from charity/volunteering/non-profit organizations to conduct field research - survey and interviews to project potential response and enthusiasm and to gather volunteers

Is this an idea that you or your organization would like to take forward?

  • This idea is meant to inspire. I hope someone else takes it on!
