What specific problem(s) are you trying to address? (300 character limit)

"30% of young people between the ages of 12-22 from Urban slum in Kenya have experienced sex" APHRC. These challenges include limited access to sexual and reproductive health information and services which contribute to STIs, including HIV/AIDS, and unintended pregnancies and abortion.

What are some of your unanswered questions about the problem(s) you are working to address? (500 character limit)

Kibera, currently does not have enough health care facilities to help the young people in case of medical emergencies, with high number of abortions in Community women and girls lose their lives in the process. Our unanswered questions is what can we do to reduce the rate of abortion and increase the rate of access to information and resources on sexual and reproductive health among young people in schools, vocational centers and young mothers? .

Who are your end users? (1000 character limit)

Mary is 21 years old, the first time we met her she was sitting on a pavement along the busy streets in Kibera, the scorching sun and dust could not make it easy for her to breastfeed her baby comfortably. Before this Mary had walked about 20 miles from the nearest health care facility. She visited the hospital after failed abortion attempt, you could see traces of blood on her clothes and those her one year old son.The Direct beneficiaries of this program will youth (Boys and Girls) between the ages of 10-21 years. The youth will be trained on Sexual reproductive health and encouraged to train others, they will also be provided for with safe spaces where they can talk about their challenges without fear or discrimination and opportunity most of them do not get home. The program will also work closely with the government to ensure construction of 3 health care faculties in case of emergencies and partner with local doctors who can provide the treatment.

Explain your idea. (500 character limit)

Jijue (Know yourself) is a service that provide its beneficiaries with information, services and training on Sexual Reproductive health. The project will involve its beneficiaries through advocacy and training, offering of health care facilities and services and provision of safe spaces in Kibera slum. The young people were involved through a research that was done by our monitoring and evaluation team. The team interviewed over 1,000 young to find the needs they have on SRHS.

What is your value proposition? (500 character limit)

100% the users come from poor families. Most of the time they are forced to quit school in order to cater for their needs. In the process they get involved in sex for money, and end up aborting which could be expensive. The program will provide post and pre interventions to support the victims in getting accurate information on Sexual Reproductive Health. The service will have a holistic approach with a goal of "Leaving No one behind". Creating competent SRHS ambassadors in the community.

What's different about your idea compared to current solutions? (500 character limit)

The current solutions in the area only focus on post interventions with little or no focus on pre interventions. The service will put its 70% effort on pre interventions. In addition we currently have organized structures and institutions that are willing support us in mobilizations and data collections. With our long term relationship with h the Government through the Ministry of Health we are able to work closely with community health workers.

What are the key reasons why end users would turn to your organization over another?

  • Convenience / Accessibility: Making products accessible

What would success look like for your end users? (500 character limit)

Because of our Theme "Educate, Equip and Empower" Success to us will look like: 1. . 500 young people equipped with sexual and reproductive health information and are able to train others. 2. 5 Heath facilities constructed in Kibera slum by the year 2020 serving young people from Kibera. 3. 3,000 young people reached indirectly through the community interventions and involvement of top community leaders

Hi Victor, it looks like there several issues in Kibera, you would like to address. There is an issue of abortion rate and lack of health care facilities, there are unanswered questions on water and sanitation and data collection.Give us a direction which one comes first with reference to the challenge itself.Secondly, you can work out on data collection, analysis and evidence for decision making.

Eunice Kajala . Thank you for your contribution. I find that it is difficult to tackle Sexual Reproductive Health without addressing the issues above. They are inter-linked, I however, take your note on which one comes first. Will definitely do that. Thank you

Apparently, I don't have. Just google the sexual and reproductive health topic you want, under Guttmacher Institute- you may get several documents and previous studies.
