700000 University and other institutions of higher learning Students are refereed and access SRHR information and services using our E-referral and Interpersonal systems set up through the Social Media for Sexual Health project by 2022.

Who will implement this idea? Or what’s your strategy to implement in the next 6-18 months?

A project desk at RHU headed by the gender and Youth manager, 1 full time Youthful project officer at the head office and 3 % time Youthful project officers in the field offices, a % time M&E officer and % time accountant. key steps -Recruit the right project team using clear and transparent process -Align the team to a shared vision and values of the project -Set up project implementation guidelines and templates -Implement the project ascertaining cost, scope and time optimisation and inbuild quality. -Review project periodically (conduct M&E processes) -Report on the project.

How has your idea changed based on feedback?

Students proposed we add a module on our application where any student forced to sleep with a lecture for marks can report this case.This came with a suggestion that we include the part of formal champions whose major role will be to see that any case of sexual harassment by lecturers reaches is pushed till end +giving disabled youth a % of champion positions:It was also suggested that our social media ,project publicity material should include sign language version to enable the disabled :

End users of any solution at RHU to be put in for pilot are consulted,during the baseline survey the end users are asked how big the problem,what possible solutions they think could be put in place,a comparison meeting is called by the project officer who discusses what the end users propose as compared to rhu's view,on reaching the meeting point then the solution is approved by the executive Director who presents it to board of trustees their after:

It was our great pleasure that we could get chance to reuse and improve our E-referral Mobile application project by involving students in public Universities in the modification, Upgrade and implementation of the project.

SMSH is to reduce the rate of unplanned pregnancies(estimate-25% UDHS 2016), Reduce the HIV infection in universities( estimated-35% RAHU 2015) & increase self confidence of University students to resist sexual pressure from lectures:

During the Pilot stage Worked hand in hand with students in makerere in giving out SRHS to fellow young students in the university but it was a little harder for some students to open up especially when it comes to speaking on their sexual affairs with lecturers(sex for marks) ,We are not sure if this time many students will open up against this alarming vice now

Who are your end users? (1000 character limit)

We intend to reach 100,000 Youth (girls and boys) (17-24 years ) in 5 public universities of Makerere University,Kyambogo University,Mbarara University ,Gulu and Busitema University with SRH information through use of educative cartoons shared on our social media pages of Facebook,whats app,instogram and twitter.We also intend to reach 50000 university students(18-24) (girls and boys) with free sexual and Reproductive Health services available in our evenly distributed over 20 clinics in Uganda through, use of champions to act as depots of non clinical services and E-referral Mobile application to be used as platform for ordering of non clinical services from our clinics and referral of students with clinical needs . We assume that every one reached student will inform other 3 at least making a number of indirect beneficiaries reaching 450,000 young people with information and services by December 2019.

RHU has worked with university students for more than 10 years now.Social media for sexual health project was engineered by the young people from Makerere university who aimed at using their ICT skills to promote the sexual and reproductive health well being of the their fellow students. It will use cartoons shared on social media as trumpets for SRH information+champions as custodians of SRHS +E-referral mobile application for referral of youth with SRHS clinical needs by champions.

During our baseline research carried out during the pilot project, it was discovered that most of the university students in particular girls (40% ) shy away from asking SRHS from old health workers in centers eg in university hospitals . our product gives youth a chance to find the non clinical services from their fellow students and in case of referral its made by fellow student and attended to by our young friendly health workers .

What's different about your idea compared to current solutions? (500 character limit)

RHU has made the end users the owners of the idea that is through taking part in the shaping of the idea ,running of the project activities as project team members and champions.As if that has not been enough,RHU has made it possible through this same project for youth to be teachers of fellow youth .Rhu has entrusted what you like and use everyday in information spreading ie.99.9% of students are a on social media (90% of the project is social media dominated hence youth friendly.

When at least 1000,000 condoms distributed to students through our champions and from our Clinics and university hospitals by 2019. At-least 150 champions nominated from all universities ,trained and given basic skill in SRH and engaged on our four social media pages by 2019. At least 40000 students refereed to our clinics and university hospitals using the E-referral Mobile application: At-least 200 sex for marks cases reports by use E-Referral app ,investigated and victims put to book.

How would you measure the impact your idea has on your end user(s) ? How will you measure the success of your program? (500 character limit)

Taking track of the number of Referrals through our Mobile application ,Number of Commodities orders and number of sexual harrasement case reported to us through Our E-referral Application. Daily social media traffic checking to see how many people have viewed our videos,how many have commented ,Shared and liked our social media content We intend to do gather our service consumer satisfaction feedback reports monthly to help us adjust accordingly through mean Bi-monthly Surveys.

We used the social media during the pilot period :Where students from Makerere University were recruited on our social media pages , given all access to all the sexual and reproductive health (audio visual and text) information shared.RHU is to Maintain the same strategy even in the scale up phase:

We are Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU) a member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). RHU is a volunteer owned and led organisation that started work in Uganda in 1957. Currently RHU operates 17 branches spread in all the sub-re barriers affecting access to sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and policy development and reviews. RHU has made significant contribution in the area of SRHR. Many of these efforts have redefined the SRHR landscape in Uganda. RHU has a long-standing record of providing quality reproductive health services that include safe motherhood, family planning, HIV/AIDS, adolescent interventions and advocacy in Uganda. RHU works with different partners and stakeholders to realise its goals .

Financial support, the pilot project was funded by grant from International Planned Parenthood Federation(IPPF).RHU clinic funded the testing phase in Kampala University and Gulu University. RHU clinic can not raise the whole budget to scale up this idea to all the universities of target hence need for financial support .

Dear Agaba, Thanks for sharing your excellent idea! We love the impact this initiative can have, and especially that students will have access to this information anytime,and that there could be a so called whistelblowing mechanism for students to report cases of sexual harassment and similar. Do you see that Lunette's idea here on Open Ideo, based on setting up Period Shops/SRHR shops on campuses (although with focus on menstrual hygiene), could also linked to yours? We'd love to have a social media component, SRHR-events on campus, social marketing etc, and we would love to explore any possible synergies further. Perhaps these SRHR_shops could include condoms, too? We'd love to hear your inputs!

Dear Agaba,
Do you refer to consumer satisfaction for use of the menstrual cup? We have done quite extensive research among female students, with the response that 95 % would never go back to using anything else than the menstrual cup, and 88 % felt that the menstrual cup improved their quality of life. Hope that answers your question!

About confidentiality;
Our E-referral platform is highly encrypted and for any information regarding a refereed person can not be even seen by person apart from our health workers and data managers .
All our health workers and data managers sign and agree to the Rhu Patients rights policy where maintaining patients information confidential is a must . Our partners(university hospitals ) also are agreed in the MOU signed that they will keep any patients information confidential .
About targeting other UNFPA targets :
RHU is piloting two new sister projects one with the young fisher men on kimi island and ANOTHER in Kalamoja all of them targeting young people .We are instead of the E-referral Mobile Application now piloting use of USSD code to access all the E-referral information by use of the ussd. After the pilot we are to integrate the two projects into a total SRH E-referal Program which will be using Mobile Application and USSD .
About Suistainability:
RHU has started up three news ways to enable her acquire financial sustainability for this program;
-Car wash campaigns .RHU has opened up various washing bays where by all staff, partner staff(Cipla,MOH,Centenary Bank ,IML,Makerere university etc) + Community at large bring their cars for washing & Money got is re-invested back to the program.
-Social Media page Adverts,RHU has partnered with centenary bank to do their company adverts on our social media for sexual health pages and for the next four years funds worth 35000 USD will be re-invested into the program.
-Charity runs are will be organised starting march 2018 and the money got will be re-invested back to the program.They will organised in partnership with Rotary Uganda

RHU Operates several clinics (now 20) around uganda, and its in these clinics that the following is done
1)Sell SRHS directly to beneficaries
2)Donors like UNFA pay RHU to deliver services and products to beneficiaries
3) As a NFO we run other business like washing bays
