Reverse Mentoring in the Office
I came across a BBC article that talked about how a group of 15 millennial generation students have been participating in a mentoring program aimed at Citigroup's Latin America office in Miami. The students are there to help managers and executives get up to speed on social media, new technologies, and learn about the latest developments in academic fields such as economics and life sciences.
The benefits of this program go both ways because not only do executives learn from the students, but young mentors are getting recognized, developing their leadership skills, as well as creating a network of connections within that business that could help in the future.
The article also mentioned challenges; one being that executives fear asking elementary questions and are also afraid to reveal their lack of knowledge. As a solution these students are coached in a way that when mentoring they are respectful and patient.
