How would you describe your idea in one sentence?

Younger people interview older adults about their "Best Recipe", document it, help cook and learn how to cook it, and transmit it forward long after the initial contact has receded into the past.

Who are the target users of your idea and how does your idea speak directly to their needs, life stages and goals?

Young people would help older adults select and capture their best recipe. The recipe cooking process would be recorded and shared.

What early, lightweight experiment can you try out in your own community to test any assumptions you might have about your idea?

Conduct a "My Best Recipe" interview with an older adult.

What aspects of your idea could benefit from the input, skills or know-how of our OpenIDEO community?

Great idea Avi, I think there are so many phenomenal stories that could be told through food and food preparation. I personally love food documentaries like Jiro Dreams of Sushi, and I'm actually kind of surprised that I haven't seen a documentary telling a series of stories through recipes.

I also love how specific the idea is, seems like one of the easier ideas to test out, but also one with a lot of potential for impact. I'd love to see how you consider growing the idea beyond a concept or something an individual filmmaker would do, and what it would take to get a whole host of people doing this on a regular basis.

For example, I think this would make a great project for high schools students to undertake, as it would require demonstrating a host of useful skills to make it work well.

You could consider developing a standard set of storyboard templates that young filmmakers can follow to make their recipe documentaries. The app Toontastic is a phenomenal example of using a templated path to enable very young users to do something that might seem complex at first: making their own cartoons.

Again, great work!

Patrick
