M E N T O R (Magically Energize with Neo-Tasks for Older-adults Rehab.

This Idea will definitely pave way for motivating, inspiring & engaging young people to support older adults through mentorship, and vice-versa. The Idea of the "Magic Class" is for All. It actually acts as a Bond between Children, Youth, Young-Adults & Older-Adults, irrespective of their Gender, Age, Colour, Creed, Caste & Religion. Magic has a miracle power to attract & bind the people of different generations at least at the Magic Class for some time, which provide scope for developing rapport, which leads to make them be able to understand each other's feelings & problems very well. The "Magic Class", is a perfect tool to enable people to connect together & nurture relationships across generations.

How would you describe your idea in one sentence?

Certain joyful emotions are to be shared with others for doubling the joy and only the Magic has the maximum potential to bring out joyful emotions from the people of different ages at the same time or in one instance.


Additional details of my Idea:
 
First of all, it is an open fact that before sanctioning/undertaking any project in any area/habitation, there might be on hand information (basic survey report) about the prospective-beneficiaries and project area details.     Else, the Project Implementing Agency (PIA) needs to do so afresh.
 
Before we inspire and engage young people to support older adults through mentorship, we must be aware of the support deserved by the Older-Adults and the program of the mentorship to be adopted by the young people.

Thus, for initiating the task we need to gather the Youth, Young-Adults & Older-Adults together in the proposed Project Area.   For this purpose, we need to conduct the Magic Classes, and the PIA has to invite all the families living in the proposed Project Area, duly emphasizing to attend the Magic Shows/ Classes with all the members of the family, including Youth & Older-Adults of the family.  
 
The Magic Classes are just useful for one or two months, that too one or two hours a day, to initiate the implementation of the project.  The Magic Classes are just an entry point to easily gather & bring the Youth & Older-Adults together in the select habitation/ locality/ Project Area.  
 
Now, reverting back to the Challenge Brief, to find the best possible solutions for the questions put forward in the challenge, with focus on few specific pieces of this equation, hereunder are the probable answers:
 
1. What needs / wants / goals do older adults have? 

NEEDS: The Older-Adults are in dire needs of the basic requirements, such as Food, Shelter, Clothes & Medicine together with proper Love, Affection, Care, Kindness & Financial Support for fulfilling their wants & goals for the smooth survival of the Older-Adults.
 
WANTS: This has to be known basically from the each Individual Older-Adult.   Some may want to study further and obtain a Degree or Post-Graduate Degree.   Some may want to acquire additional skills in which they have experience.   Some may want to acquire Special Skills in any Technical subjects or Self-Employment Oriented Technical Subjects.
 
GOALS: This has to be known basically from the each Individual Older-Adult.   Some may have the desire & goal to earn money, substitute their family income & feel proud to be an earning member of the family. Some may have the desire & goal to pass on their skills to next generation.   Some may have the desire & goal to have Self-Employment or a suitable Employment per their skills, educational qualifications, age, etc.



2. What opportunities are young adults well-poised to support using their capabilities and talents? 

The well-poised Educated, Qualified & Skilful Youth & Young-Adults could have the ample opportunities to support the Older-Adults using their capabilities and talents.    The Youth or Young-Adult fluent in English could teach English to the interested Older-Adult/s.   The Qualified Youth & Young-Adults could entertain Tutorial Services. The Technically Skilful Youth & Young-Adults could pass on Technical Skills to Older-Adults.   Similar is the case with Dance, Drama, Music, Magic, Drawing, Painting, Games & Sports, etc.
 
 
3. How do we grow the pool of young adults who will engage with older adults, making this exchange possible? 

As already stated earlier (elsewhere in this report), with the conduct of regular & continuous day by day Magic Classes for a month or two in a Habitation/Locality, one would be able to attract & bind the people of different ages/generations providing scope for developing rapport & make them be able to understand each other's feelings & problems very well.   This Project Implementing Agency (PIA) has to watch closely & observe the growing friendships among the audience/trainees of the Magic Classes.
 
 
 
4. How do we show young people how much they can learn and grow by working with older adults? 

The Education, Skills & Knowledge are such things/subjects, so much so you impart you could get double of so much.In fact, Teaching & Learning are not only inter-related, but also inclusive, a Teacher could learn a lot while teaching and a Learner could indirectly enable the Teacher to learn from the interaction of the learner.
     
     
5. How might we employ fresh approaches to engaging young people? 

With the introduction of the Music Classes itself we would be successful in bringing the Youth closer to the Older-Adults.The Youth found to be eligible basing on their background, qualifications, skills, good companionship, etc., are to be engaged.In addition to this, Professionals, Students from Colleges, Scholars from Universities should be invited to undertake mentorship. Then, for continuity or continuously engaging the youth, the Project Implementing Agency (PIA) needs to undertake any one or all of the following:
 
(a) Create scope for mutually mentoring by both Youth & Older-Adult or to reciprocate suitably with alternative subject/task. 

(b) Encourage with issuing the Testimonials for the Services extended by the Youth. 

(4) Effect payment of Honoraria to the Youth engaged for mentoring Older-Adults




How will it work?

Look at the full question: How might we inspire and engage young people to support older adults through mentorship?

This tricky question further splitting itself into and generating "four" prime questions as follows:

(1) How could we gather Youth, Young-Adults and Older-Adults together on single platform and make them better understand & raise confidence on each other.

The Magic Classes are to easily gather & bring the Youth & Older-Adults together in the select habitation/ locality/ Project Area.  These Magic Classes are just useful for one or two months, that too one or two hours a day, to initiate the gathering of people and recording of information pertaining to the prospective beneficiaries, encourage to interact with each other and for better understand & raising confidence on each other is to be done by the appointed Counselors.   
 
 
 
(2) How could we  motivate & inspire Youth & Young-Adults to teach/mentor Older-Adults?

As soon as gathering of people at the Magic Classes/Shows and recording of information pertaining to the prospective beneficiaries is done, the appointed Counselors (who are thoroughly aware of the support deserved by the Older-Adults and have the program syllabi of the mentorship to be adopted) has to motivate & inspire Youth & Young-Adults to teach/mentor Older-Adults & watch, observe & encourage developing intimacy, dependency & growing relations among the Youth & Older-Adults.    Then, have to make the pairings among the select Youth/Young-Adults and Older-Adults.    This way we could start motivating & inspiring Youth & Young-Adults to teach/mentor Older-Adults, or vice-versa.
 

(3) How could we "engage" Youth & Young-Adults?

The word "engage" has multiple meanings.    Here, it clearly conveys that the meaning is to Deploy or Employ to Create scope for Youth/Young-Adults for mentoring the Older-Adults.    If Youth & Younger-Adult are to employ, what should be the compensation in connection with their time spent or services extended?    The following are the probable ways to compensate:
 
(a) To reciprocate suitably with Mentoring Youth/Younger-Adults by Older-Adults with alternative subject/task.    

(b) To encourage with issuing the Testimonials for the Services extended by the Youth.  

(c) To effect payment of Monthly Honoraria to the Youth/Young-Adults engaged for mentoring Older-Adults.


(4) What would be the Topic or Subject or Syllabi for using in Mentoring/ Teaching?
 
The subject should be dealing with the Life-Cycle, Human Relationship, Moral Responsibilities & Socio-Economic Dependency of the Human-beings, and those enable to bridge gaps between the generations, about Age, Aspirations, Understanding Abilities, Morale, Relationship, Etc.

Then, the main activity of the project of mentorship is to be carried out under the able & eligible Councilors qualified in subjects like Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Philosophy, Theology, Moral Sciences, Ethical & Logical Sciences, Law & Legal Studies, etc.



Why do you think it might succeed?

The growing population of the segment of Older-Adults needs a space for their time-pass & entertainment, further education, further skills development, further employment/self-employment, etc.   When such a demand is there, if the windows for such spaces are created they are sure to be successful.


What questions do you have for the community?



What early, lightweight experiment can you try out in your own community to test any assumptions you might have about your idea?

There is seldom need to undertake lightweight experiment & test assumtions, as far as Magic Classes are concerned. Because, on many occasions & during festive seasons my Paternal-Uncle has exhibited different types of simple Magics, whereupon not only our entire family members, but also our neighbours' families have gathered together & enjoyed it by sharing our joyful emotions with each other among the gathering. Regarding main activity prototyping, testing& finding the assumptions & aticipations, it could be carried out in any community.

What aspects of your idea could benefit from the input, skills or know-how of our OpenIDEO community?

Ever since I am participating & sharing my views with the OpenIDEO Community, I could observe that my writing skill or drafting power is abnormally low (even- though my "Idea" is strong enough) when compared to other participants' contributions. Thus, I wish that my IDEA draft be redrafted by my OpenIDEO Community.

I love this idea. Magic is universal -- loved by people of all ages. I am pretty sure some older folks would love to show the tricks they learned to children. Hope you make this happen.
