THROUGH ESTABLISHING “ALL-IN-ONE VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS” TO TRAIN AND EQUIP THE YOUTH WITH THE SKILLS THAT MATCH WITH THE MARKET DEMAND/OPPORTUNITIES.
This can be achieved through proper coordination of the required resources to set up the schools, and thereafter, recruitment of staff/trainers and enrolling willing trainees/students.
A major resource is Funds.
The general idea of having an All-in-one Vocational school in a particular community is to offer an all-round training of various skills in different areas that match with the current market related opportunities in both a formal and an informal setting.
This would entail several categories or areas of interest/training programs to ensure that the youth participate according to their respective interests and capabilities.
Categories of Training programs:
Entertainment: This includes singing, acting, drama etc.
Sports: This includes; Football, basketball, sprinting/running, chess, karate/kungfu etc.
Practical programs: This includes; Electrical studies, mechanical studies, brick-laying, building, carpentry, plumbing, Art and design, plumbing, hairdressing, tailoring etc.
Agri-based programs: This includes; Farming, Animal husbandry, poultry keeping and horticulture.
Other skills include driving motor vehicles, trucks and trailers.
The school would generally be a talent and skillful pool.
Career guidance from a professional point of view is key if the right choices are to be made for, and /by students.
With this, therefore, the youth can be in position to voluntarily engage themselves and participate in any program of their interest and fit.
There can also be flexibility of a student to switch to other categories in case of the desire to be trained and equipped with various skills.
However, proper guidance has to ensure that students are advised and grouped according to age and physical abilities.
All the categories entail economic activities that can take advantage of any market opportunity anytime and anywhere.
More so, with the advancement of information technology in today’s world, a compulsory category (I.T) can be established to ensure every youth in the training camp is trained about the basics and general use and application of different tech-gadgets (computers, I pads, notepads, smart phones) that are currently part of everyday life.
The I.T department can be well funded to train different software applications and also initiate/boost innovation. For example the introduction of coding programs can help students learn how to build different software applications for various platforms/operating systems, website designing etc. hence innovation.
The school can be in position to collaborate with various big companies that can provide internship programs and sponsorship benefits to the outstanding trainees/students.
More so, partnerships can be formed with governments. This can help to provide subsidies and promotion of the school’s programs and students which would help lift the financial burden by a wide percentage.
Innovation schemes can be put in place so as to encourage the youth to participate under different categories and compete for innovation Awards after a particular period of idea generation, building and exhibition.
More so, competitions and prizes can be put in place for the participation and benefit of sporting and entertainment students; for example racing, soccer and singing competitions.
Through this, the youth get to realize their potential and skills which can help expand their economic opportunities even across national borders.
Conclusively, with the right team and partnerships, financial and professional assistance is key to the execution of the above plan to ensure expansion of economic opportunities in East Africa.
