Jobs of the Future - Agriculture

We want your ideas for how to engage both rural and urban youth in taking advantage of the opportunities in the agricultural sector.

Farming is the biggest sector of the economy in East Africa, but much of it is subsistence – and the average age of a farmer is 60 years old. Experts agree that one of the largest areas of opportunity for young people in East Africa now and in the future is agriculture.

That doesn’t just mean farming. It means raising productivity, connecting farmers to markets, value added products and services, participating in the agricultural value chain and food system as well as spotting gaps and future opportunities. It could even mean things that no one’s thought of before.
